Samsung to offer internet access through TVs

Samsung to offer internet access through TVsA leading electronics manufacturer is planning to offer internet applications and content through its future TV sets, it has been announced.

Samsung is among a number of companies that are planning to use a new technology which is being developed by Yahoo! and Intel.

It is believed that the pair’s Widget Channel will allow consumers to view a variety of online content and applications through televisions while also watching programming on the set.

Eric Kim, senior vice-president and general manager of Intel’s digital home group, said: "TV will fundamentally change how we talk about, imagine and experience the internet.

"This effort is one of what we believe will be many exciting new ways to bring the internet to the TV, and it really shows the potential of what consumers can look forward to."

Samsung recently announced the launch of a new range of LCD TVs featuring its Touch of Colour design.

The Series 9 systems are available with both 46 and 55-inch displays.
