A major new PlayStation 3 title was among the big winners at the recent Edge Awards.
LittleBigPlanet was given awards for Best Game, Best Innovation and Best Visual Design at the industry event, which was organised by one of the sector’s most influential publications.
Other winners at the event included Left 4 Dead and Dead Space, while the Xbox 360 was named Best Hardware.
Tony Mott, editor-in-chief of Edge, said LittleBigPlanet "stood apart thanks to its unique audiovisual design and its open-ended architecture".
He added: "It is the most playful game of 2008, and its ability to capture the imaginations of everyone, not just established gamers, was fundamental in it earning Edge’s ultimate award this year."
While LittleBigPlanet has scooped major awards, it appears another title is set to be the biggest seller over the festive period.
Ladbrokes has installed Call of Duty: World at War as the favourite title to top gaming charts over Christmas, ahead of titles such as Mario Kart Wii.
