Adjustable heels and changeable outer skins are two methods which are being trialled by designers to make shoes more varied.
The adjustable heels, developed by Camileon Heels, allow the wearer to change from a kitten heeled one inch to a higher three inches simply by pulling the heel down and locking it into place, reports the Salt Lake Tribune.
Camileon Heels has produced the versatile footwear in 50 styles, which are available online and in certain shops.
Another idea to make shoes suit every outfit include interchangeable ’skins’ which fit over the outside of the footwear to give a different appearance., states the newspaper.
For children’s shoes designers have conjured the idea of adjustable shoe size, which claim to grow with a youngster’s foot, increasing by a full shoes size.
InchwordShoes.com came up with the money saving idea, which uses a button and a bellows to make the shoes grow in half-size increments.
Another development in the footwear world has seen high-tech shoes being created which allow the foot to breathe and support the feet fully.
