Those interested in going for a barefoot jog but do not want the discomfort of running without shoes may want to try a pair of barefoot-style running shoes which have less padding and arch support than other trainers, an expert has suggested.
Some of the options available to runners wishing to try a barefoot experience include Vibram USA’s FiveFingers and Nike’s Free shoes, according to the Start Tribune.
Nike’s shoes are available from $60 (£30) and with their deep grooves in the soles, the company claims they "activate" the foot muscles.
The FiveFingers trainers made by Vibram USA have slots for the toes, thin rubber soles and stretchy uppers, and come with a price tag that starts at $70 (£35), the news provider has reported.
Vibram’s shoes can help people improve their balance and become more agile by stimulating the lower leg and feet muscles, according to a blogger on smarterfitter.com.
A more expensive option that may appeal to those who want to make sure they maintain an efficient and natural running technique are the shoes from Newton Running, which are available from $155 (£79).
