Loafers have once again become "hugely fashionable", one expert claims.
According to Daily Mail writer Liz Jones, the shoes have made a return to the forefront of fashion this season and are being worn by "a smattering of celebrities" including TV presenter Alexa Chung.
First introduced in 1936 under the Norwegian name of the Weejun, loafers were "soon adopted as a preppie wardrobe staple, for men and women," she says.
Shops are currently "awash" with the shoes as they have "become hugely fashionable this summer, what with the backlash against the like-to-break-your-ankle bondage wedges," Ms Jones adds.
However, the fashion expert strongly advises against wearing loafers with tights or socks to prevent the wearer’s feet from becoming hot and sticky.
Meanwhile, fellow Daily Mail writer Stephanie Rafanelli has claimed pyjama pants are making a return to the forefront of fashion this summer.
She said the comfortable, flattering trousers, also known as palazzo pants, "are the sophisticated take on the ‘just-got-out-of-bed’ look".
