One of the hottest and most controversial video games of all time could be set to smash sales records.
CNet reports that Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV) could break Halo 3’s entertainment industry record for first-day sales.
That figure currently stands at $170 million (£85 million), but GTA IV could top even that.
Speaking to the website, Chris Olivera, vice-president of corporate communications at the GameStop chain said: "We are saying that the launch of this game is tracking to be one of the top three best-selling games, not of just this year, but the top three games in [our] company’s history."
Associate Press reports that the game, available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, could sell up to nine million copies in coming days.
GTA IV was created by Rockstar Games which is also responsible for such controversial games as Bully and Manhunt 2.
Its latest title was released on 29th April and carries an 18 certificate.
