London commuters are being given flip-flops made from grass to help them relax.
The living footwear has been created by doughnut maker Krispy Kreme, after it found 53 per cent of urban UK workers blame their stress levels on a lack of contact with Mother Nature.
A poll of more than 1,000 UK workers by the company also found that while almost three quarters (72 per cent) of UK workers admit to feeling stressed on a daily basis, 81 per cent claim a walk in the park will make them feel instantly relaxed.
The flip-flops, which Krispy Kreme hopes to distribute nationally, take up to three weeks to grow and each shoe is covered with more than 5,000 blades of grass.
If they are watered regularly the al fresco footwear can remain in season for over four months, the company said.
Katie McDermott, from Krispy Kreme, remarked: There’s currently a lot of uncertainty in the city so what better way to escape the concrete jungle than by slopping on a pair of grass flip-flops and walking around in your own mobile meadow."
Krispy Kreme has been making doughnuts since 1937.
