Call of Duty ‘favourite for festive top spot’

Call of Duty 'favourite for festive top spot'The latest Call of Duty title has been named the favourite title to top the video games charts this Christmas.

Bookmaker Ladbrokes has installed Call of Duty: World at War as the release expected to prove most popular over the festive period, ahead of the likes of Mario Kart Wii and Fifa Soccer ‘09.

However, games such as Guitar Hero World Tour, Wii Music and Wii Fit are also expected to perform well in the sales charts.

A spokesman for Ladbrokes, Nick Weinberg, said the battle for the top spot "gets bigger and better each year".

"It’s now a staple part of our festive betting diet. Call of Duty is the field’s stand out favourite. It’s going to take a monumental effort to wrestle the gong from the market leader’s hands," he added.

Microsoft recently announced that sales of its Xbox 360 console were up year-over-year by 124 per cent last month.

The firm claimed the figures made the system the fastest-growing console in Europe.
