The iRiver Spinn mp3 player is an "innovative" device, according to one Cnet reviewer.
Nate Lanxon says the Spinn features a new control system and will initially be available in 4GB and 8GB capacities, with 16GB to follow.
It has a mechanical wheel which rotates 360 degrees and clicks as it swivels, Mr Lanxon comments.
However, its effectiveness depends on how the user grips the mp3 player, he warns.
The device features a 480×272-pixel touch screen, a 3.5 millimetre headphone socket and supports mp3, WMA and WAV audio files, as well as Mpeg4, WMV9 and Xvid videos, but not YouTube Flash.
Mr Lanxon concludes: "Overall the Spinn is a decent performer, with its marvellous screen, decent audio quality and terrific audio file format support being its main assets, as well as its general ease of use."
Any music lovers looking for a dock for their iPod might want to consider the Intempo Fusion device.
Tech Digest reviewer Andy Merrett says it has a "sleek, curvy look" and is "pretty high on the list of contenders".
