A leading mobile phone manufacturer could soon be making handsets compatible with the Android platform, it has been revealed.
Sony Ericsson is one of 14 companies to have become the latest to sign up to the Open Handset Alliance (OHA), which works to offer consumers richer mobile experiences.
The organisation’s first development was the Android platform, which has already been used in the G1 phone, which suggests Sony Ericsson may choose to use it in future devices.
Discussing the company’s decision, Rikko Sakaguchi, corporate vice-president and head of creation at the mobile phone company, said it would bring "a wealth of experience" to the body.
He added: "We believe the OHA offers an exciting opportunity for a new and unique user experience only Sony Ericsson can deliver."
Sony Ericsson recently announced the launch of new exclusive panels for its Xperia X1 multimedia phone.
The applications give owners of the device easy access to Facebook and Microsoft Windows Live programs.
