A new piece of furniture designed to make it easier for couples to split their belongings down the middle in the event of a divorce has been unveiled.
Created by a student at Northumbria University, the so-called "divorce cabinet" has been designed to be sold with a saw which people can apply to cut lines pre-drilled into the item, reports the Journal.
After being cut in half, pull-down legs mean that each part of the cabinet can be used separately when split.
The cabinet’s designer, Alexander Tinning, said she had been inspired by the differences between modern life and the 1950s when creating the furniture.
"A massive difference is the easier divorce now and higher break-up rates. It affects a lot of people’s lives," she told the newspaper.
"The divorce cabinet is the result of designing for today’s culture."
In a recent article for HGTV.com, interior designer Lin Lee said that people should install cabinets in their kitchens which have the same feel as other rooms.
She added that glass doors on cupboards can help to make them look more modern.
