Top headphones named

Those thinking about buying a new mp3 player might also want to consider splashing out on an additional pair of headphones to help them make the most of their new purchases.

Writing for the Times, David Price reveals his top headphones, and dubs the Denon AH-C551s as the best buy for all-round quality.

He says: "Sonically superb, they combine plentiful punch with polished treble, so they communicate the warmth of classic jazz as capably as dance music’s rhythmic snap."

The headphones will set consumers back around £65 and offer "a near-perfect package", he adds.

However, anyone who is serious about their music might want to look at the Technica ATH-CK9, which Mr Price awards the title of "best for audiophiles".

Mr Price does point out that the £130 headphones will show up the poor quality of mp3 files that have been highly compressed, so they are for serious music buffs only.

Last week, Stuff.tv praised the new iRiver Spinn mp3 player, stating that the website’s staff are "already quite smitten with it".
