Pioneer’s new Kuro PDP-LX5090 plasma TV creates "rich and vibrant colours", according to a review.
Stuff.tv stated that when tested using a copy of Disney animated film Cars, the system also showed it was "still capable of demonstrating subtlety and insight".
In addition, the model’s black levels were described as "excellent", while its audio capability was also found to be "clear and balanced".
"We’d find it hard to swallow that Pioneer could come up with a new TV that displays a staggering gap over its last range, and, well, it hasn’t," the website explained.
"But there is an improvement – and the last range of TVs was probably the best we’d ever seen."
Praise for the new Pioneer system has come after Crave at CNet.co.uk’s Ian Morris claimed that the company’s Kuro PDP-LX6090 was "one of the most exciting TVs" he had seen in recent times.
He added that while the price of the 60-inch system "could scare your bank manager", it may prove good value for those looking to a large display.
