A new LCD TV designed to provide viewers with a cinema-like experience has been unveiled by Philips.
Expected to be available in Spring, the company’s new Cinema 21:9 has a 51-inch display shaped to suit the aspect ratio mentioned its name.
The idea behind the concept is to allow film fans the chance to watch motion pictures on a system that complements the format they are produced in.
Des Power, senior vice-president of marketing for Philips’ television arm, said the model would take owners "as close to the experience that you enjoy at the cinema as you can get without buying a ticket".
"We believe that to really become absorbed in watching a film at home consumers are looking for a real cinematic viewing experience."
Samsung recently unveiled a new LCD TV that it has claimed to be the slimmest in the world.
The company has stated that the device, which was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, is thinner than most mobile phones.
