Panasonic has launched a new digital camera, the Lumix DMC-G1, which will be available from the middle of next month.
According to the firm, the device offers the power of a DSLR along with the ease of use of a point-and-shoot digital camera.
David Briganti, spokesperson for Panasonic, said: "With the LUMIX G1, we’re able to provide manual controls and professional-quality images, while also making the camera much more compact and with intuitive features easy for those new to DSLRs to learn and use."
Users will be able to switch lenses on the device in order to achieve the photographic effects they require, he adds.
According to the firm, the range of cameras - which it has dubbed Micro Four Thirds systems - will be increased in 2009.
Recently, Computer Active described the Pogo Polaroid - a mini-printer which allows for instant prints of digital photos - as being great fun.
