Microsoft’s new offering is staking a claim as the "legitimate" alternative to the Apple iPod, according to one technology news website.
Cnet reports the Zune 120 has been overhauled in terms of hardware and public image.
The website claims the firm last year turned its attention to improving the device’s firmware and desktop software, while updating the storage capacity and pricing of new models in order to remain competitive.
Reviewer Donald Bell maintains the design of the player remains virtually the same
as the previous Zune 80 and the increased hard drive capacity does not translate into a thicker design.
"The Zune 120 measures the same 4.3 inches high by 2.4 inches wide by 0.5 inch deep as the Zune 80. Also, no changes have been made to the Zune’s navigation controls, headphone jack, hold switch, dock connection, and 3.2-inch glass-covered LCD," he continues.
Meanwhile, it was reported by PC World last month that Microsoft’s Zune 16GB offers good audio quality and plays back video and can display photos.
