Mattel’s new Barbie Girl MP3 player offers users both digital music files and a pass into Barbiegirl.com, which the company states will provide users with a host of online options.
The MP3 player, once connected to a PC with an internet connection, lets people send messages, play games, shop and look after virtual pets.
Users will also be able to take advantage of a classic Barbie-related activity and ‘dress’ the MP3 player intwo different outfits.
Currently only available in the US, the Barbie Girl player retails at $59.99 and can hold 120 MP3-format songs thanks to a 512MB memory.
Last month, Mattel announced that a range of new eco-friendly Barbie accessories to mark Earth Day.
Speaking at the time, Richard Dickson, senior vice president of marketing, media and entertainment, worldwide, Mattel brands, said: "Barbie is always a reflection of current cultural trends and issues, and girls are increasingly aware of making a green statement."
