Researchers have developed a satellite navigation system that they claim will help drivers avoid traffic jams on the road ahead.
According to the Telegraph, the Congestion Avoidance Dynamic Routing Engine (Cadre) would see drivers both receive information from other motorists on road conditions and feed data to a satellite.
Subscribers will be able to receive live information while on the road via a mobile internet GPRS system to a screen, such as a mobile phone or access information on how long a journey will take from a website.
Cadre has been developed by a government backed team made up of a number of businesses, Portsmouth University, Hampshire County Council and Transport Research Laboratory.
"The system will be able to tell you the best time to leave home," said Patrick Beullens, a member of Portsmouth University’s mathematics department.
"We can also help you make your journey as short as possible by minimizing delays, he added.
According to Cellular News, the system, which has been tested on more than 2,100 journeys around Hampshire, was sponsored by the South East of England Development Agency.
