The Magellan Maestro 4250 GPS is "a solid and accurate mid-level portable navigation system", according to on reviewer.
Writing for CNet, Bonnie Cha states that the device features text-to-speech functionality, integrated Bluetooth and traffic capabilities as well as providing accurate directions during trials.
The Magellan Maestro 4250 is also slightly more compact and lighter than the Magellan Maestro 4040, weighing 6.8 ounces and 3.2 inches high by 4.8 inches wide by 0.7 inch deep.
The device can also be operated with the sound of the user’s voice - a function that worked well "for the most part" when tested, as well as being a "great safety feature", Ms Cha says.
However, addresses can not be entered through the use of the technology and a fairly quiet environment is needed for the best results.
The Magellan Maestro 4250 is available for $499.99 (£250).
Meanwhile, TomTom has announced it is to update models in its One and XL GPS navigation series.
