Dash Navigation has released a software update for its Dash Express GPS device.
The new software can be downloaded wirelessly within compatible Wi-Fi networks, all the user is required to do is turn their device on, the company has said.
Included in the update is MyRoute, a feature which enables the device to automatically learn the driver’s preferred routes and provide traffic-based arrival time data so they can be compared with other routes.
The software’s Search Along Route facility allows users to search virtually for points of interest via Yahoo! Local search.
SiRFInstantFix technology is also included to provide drivers with additional over-the-air GPS satellite position information at regular intervals even when the vehicle is in difficult conditions such as beneath tree cover or near high-rise buildings.
"Unlike existing GPS devices, the Internet-connected Dash Express, is the first system designed to keep learning and getting smarter over time," said Paul Lego, chief executive of Dash Navigation.
"Today’s software update is just the beginning. We’re interacting with our customers on a daily basis, gathering their input and incorporating it into the product, he added.
