The Creative Zen is the first iPod beater, according to one technology news website.
New Zealand PC World reports the "excellent" X-Fi is "beyond question" a better all-round mp3 player than Apple’s current batch of iPods.
Commentator Tim Moyniham claims it beats the iPod for sound, headphones, feature sets and expandable storage via an SD card slot.
Mr Moyniham adds that the easy-to-use interface will please users who are not impressed by touchscreen and the sucker punch as well as the ability to stream and download music from users’ PCs wirelessly.
"It looks great, too, and it costs almost half as much as Apple’s current Wi-Fi enabled iPod Touch players," he notes.
The player supports AAC, mp3, WAV and WMA formats as well as audible books and an on-bard speaker also provides headphone-less playback.
Mr Moyniham concludes: "The X-Fi is arguably the most innovative, feature-packed player on the market."
The organisation was founded in 1981.
