Sony’s new Bravia KDL-55X4500 LCD TV has been described in a new review as "the best all-round LED-based" system available.
John Archer of TrustedReviews has stated that the system acquitted itself so well in testing that it could be a threat to "Pioneer’s established position" as the "undisputed king of picture quality".
Writing on the website, he claimed that the model performed well with both high and standard-definition material, while it also boasts "effortless" black level production.
He explained: "Achieving deep blacks doesn’t demand anything like the same accompanying reduction in brightness that you have to tolerate with normal LCD TVs when they try to do black.
"As a result, dark scenes are presented with a greater sense of solidity and immersive three-dimensionality than I’ve seen anywhere aside from - perhaps - Pioneer’s latest Kuro plasmas."
Sony recently announced that its Bravia XEL-1, the world’s thinnest TV, is now available for consumers in the UK to pre-order.
