Sony has announced the launch of a new VAIO notebook which includes a backlighting system originally designed for the company’s LCD TVs.
The 3LED technology on the new AW-Series laptop, which also includes a 18.4-inch high definition screen, has been previously used on Bravia systems.
According to the manufacturer, the backlighting system means that users of the model get "the best possible picture quality" when they either view pictures or films on the portable computer.
The AW-Series has been unveiled alongside two other laptops, the VAIO RT and LV/LN.
Discussing the models, Hidetoshi Takigawa, marketing director for VAIO of Europe, said: "People often talk about futuristic technology, but this isn’t talk - this is the real thing."
Sony recently launched a brand new LCD TV that it described as the thinnest of its kind.
The Bravia ZX1, which includes side-mounted LEDs rather than backlights, measures 9.9 millimetres at its slimmest point and was showcased by the electronics manufacturer at the IFA 2008 consumer electronics trade fair.
