Apple is rumoured to be releasing its first tablet device by October.
According to a post on MacDailyNews, the new MacBook Touch, as the device will be known, will include a slot-loading SuperDrive, accelerometer, GPS and possibly haptic technology from Immersion.
"Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured Multi-Touch," the source said, adding that although the tablet will be relatively expensive to produce initially, they will be sold a "low" price that will reduce margins.
"We’ve heard vague reports from reliable sources that Quanta is busy building a touch product for Apple. This latest information seems to complement what we’ve heard," the post concluded.
Apple’s latest release, the new 3G iPhone, attracted significant consumer interest from its launch.
According to the Daily Telegraph, more than 130,000 people pre-registered their interest in the phone on O2’s website in the first week after the device was unveiled by Apple.
