Toshiba has enlisted Ericsson to provide built-in broadband support for its business laptop range.
Ericsson’s High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) mobile broadband modules offer data rates of up to 7.2 megabits per second (Mb/s) in the downlink and up to two Mb/s in the uplink, the company said in a statement.
A GPS receiver is also included in the modules which are expected to be deployed in Toshiba laptops due for release in the second half of this year.
"Through this partnership, we will create products that are greatly beneficial to our customers, assisting them in every aspect of their business lives," said Thomas Teckentrup, general manager at Toshiba Computer Systems Division Europe.
Toshiba recently unveiled several new additions to its Satellite range of laptops.
The Satellite P300, A300, M300 and U400 feature Toshiba Face Recognition software, a built-in FM tuner and sleep-and-charge USB ports, enabling gadgets to be charged whether the laptop is switched on or off or in hibernation mode.
