Computer manufacturer Acer has announced that it is to launch a new laptop model at a major trade show in June.
The company is expected to unveil its new low-cost system, which is expected to weigh less than a kilogram, at the Computex show in Taipei.
JT Wang, the firm’s chairman, revealed the details about the laptop to ComputerworldUK, while it was also outlined that the system is expected to feature Intel’s new Atom processor.
According to the website, the new chip was designed specifically for use in low-cost laptop systems, with the company stated that around 25 machines are being developed using the technology.
Reports on the forthcoming launch of Acer’s new low-cost system has come after Toshiba announced it is extending its Satellite Pro range of portable systems.
Five new computers have been added to the product line, with prices ranging from $699 (£350) to $1,099 for the models.
All of the systems feature a DVD SuperMulti drive and TruBrite widescreen display.
