A leading computer manufacturer has announced plans to launch new long-life batteries for its laptops.
Hewlett Packard (HP) is to offer the Sonata batteries, created by Boston Power, through an initiative which will see users given an upgrade every three years.
The new products will be available optionally for those with HP laptops from the beginning of next year.
Jonathan Kaye, director of consumer notebooks at HP, suggested that the new batteries would help the company improve its environmental performance.
"By partnering with Boston-Power, we are able to offer our customers batteries with a longer lifespan and help reduce the amount of technology waste in landfills," he added.
HP recently announced plans to launch a new laptop featuring a touchscreen display.
The TouchSmart tx2 notebook PC is designed to make it easier for people to access files or content while on the move.
Built to support Windows Vista Home Premium, it also includes both the AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor and the company’s MediaSmart software.
