While there is currently a trend for small laptops, some users are looking for power, rather than portability and in light of this one expert has put three larger devices through their paces.
Writing for Boston.com, Hiawatha Bray explains that these laptops are perfect for those looking to get a desktop replacement.
He looked at the Toshiba Satellite P305, the Apple MacBook Pro and the HP Pavilion HDX.
Of these, the latter seems to be his favourite, despite the fact that it is impractical to lug around.
He said: "The HDX is an appealing device that’s well-suited to bedrooms or college dorms.
"It’s far too large and heavy for real portability, but once you’ve tried an HDX, you may want to stay home anyway."
Yesterday, Tech Radar described the new Eee PC as being "a great laptop".
According to the website the Eee PC 1000H is a fantastic portable machine.
