A decade of Sex and the City on television screens has led to the programme influencing modern fashion styles, according to one fashion writer.
Amy Verner of Canadian Globe and Mail says office trends have been affected by the series, which followed the adventures of four fashion-conscious New York friends.
She interviewed Sex and the City writer Candace Bushnell at a Toronto networking event, asking how the series had influenced workplace fashions.
Quoted by the publication, Ms Bushnell said: "I always say our goal with the fashion is that women should watch the show and they should wake up the next morning and want to get dressed for work."
Ms Verner points out the power suits worn by the series character Samantha Jones, the more conservative style of Miranda Hobbes, Charlotte York’s "prim and polished" look and the "cosmopolitan hippy" appearance of Carrie Bradshaw.
The ‘gladiator heel’ as seen in the Sex and the City movie is currently a shoe trend hit, with designs such as the Just Cavalli black gladiator heel proving popular with women taking their footwear leads from the film.
