The fashion world is prepared to celebrate an unlikely influence on the clothing industry - Barbie.
It has been announced that well-known designers including Vera Wang, Calvin Klein and Christian Louboutin are taking part in an event at New York Fashion Week later this week to celebrate the doll’s 50th birthday.
Each of the participants have contributed items inspired by the toy which will be worn by models styled to reflect the character’s best-known looks.
Renowned designer Tommy Hilfiger, who is taking part in the event, said Barbie is "the quintessential American icon".
He added: "She represents a woman’s first experience with style, transcending generations and cultures; she holds a special place in the fashion world and is an inspiration to many designers."
New York Fashion Week, which is sponsored by car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz, is set to take place from February 13th to the 20th.
The event will be kicked off with an exhibition of The Heart Truth’s new dress collection.
