Time to Put a Little Spring in Your Step

by The Chief Shopper, Shannon Clouston

Whether you have 100 pairs of shoes or simply the same trusted rotation of three, Spring is a great time to consider a new pair to make you feel a bit more optimistic about the months to come. Winters’ harsh weather and colours leave much to be desired when the sun comes out. Even just a new pair to get active in or a bright colour that makes you smile is a start. Here are a few suggestions to get you going:

Time for a new pair of trainers. Depending on your level of activity, you should change your trainers every three to 12 months. If you are a runner, for instance, running 30 miles a week, new trainers are a must at the 3 month mark. If you are left wondering why your ‘cute, pink comfortable shoes’ are called trainers, you can wait 1 year +. Football boots are also shoes men, in particular, forget to replace. The same rule holds true – depending on how often you use them, it’s important to ensure you replace your boots on some sort of regular schedule.

Find some fun wellies. From the too cool of Glastonbury crew to little kids in the park, wellies can be handy, comfortable and stylish. With so many colours and patterns to choose from shopping for wellies is half the fun. For kids, you can go a bit crazy with prints because they won’t wear them for very long (so also make sure they fit your budget). For adults, don’t get too carried away with colours and prints if they won’t fit with you regularly all black attire or if you never go out in the rain!

Accent ballerinas. Ballet pumps continue to be a popular choice for Spring. They are comfortable, come in a range of prices, and with both colours and prints available they can be made fashionable season after season. Ballet pumps are also the type of shoe that women seem to justify buying in bulk!

Whatever type of shoe you are looking for, remember these simple rules: make sure they fit (how many times have you said “they aren’t that tight’ when trying on the last to-die-for sale pumps); think about how often you will wear them and with what; and ensure the shoes fit within your budget (no point going Jimmy Choo if the cost makes you sneeze).
