Replacing inefficient household appliances with newer more eco-friendly models can save consumers money, according to an expert.
Caroline Rams, PR assistant for the Energy Saving Trust, said that buying a new fridge-freezer could save a homeowner somewhere in the region of £34 a year.
She added that if people across the UK all chose to buy more efficient cold goods, including individual refrigerator or freezer systems, savings of £700 million a year could be made.
"Look out for the Energy Saving Recommended logo when you’re buying new electrical appliances," she advised.
"The logo appears on a growing range of products - from light bulbs to laundry appliances, indicating the most energy efficient appliances which are also cheaper to run."
Earlier this year, Electrolux revealed it has designed a new environmentally friendly vacuum cleaner.
According to Smarthouse, the new Ultra Silencer Green is made from recycled plastic and 90 per cent of its body is thought to be recyclable.
It also uses a third less energy than a standard device.
