The Navigon 2100 Max is "a worthy TomTom rival", one reviewer has claimed.
According to Trusted Review’s Jonathon Bray, the satellite navigation system, which is priced at £169.99, "is not a bad deal", even when the one-off fee of around £40 needed for TMC reception in the UK is taken into account.
The device comes with maps of the UK, Ireland and the rest of Europe, a TMC traffic information and speed camera data - a similar feature set to the TomTom Go 730 Traffic which is priced at £270, he claimed.
One of the gadget’s most "interesting" features is Lane Assistant Pro - a function which tells drivers which lane they should be not just on motorways and major roads but also on minor multi-lane roads as well, the expert added.
Maps are described by Mr Bray as looking "drop-dead gorgeous on the Max’s bright, clear 4.3-inch wide screen" whereas TomTom’s "are basic and functional in the extreme and haven’t been changed in years".
The TomTom Go 920T was recently commended by Consumer Reports after the review publication carried out several months of in-lab and on-the-road tests for 39 GPS systems.
