Apple could be set to slash the cost of its laptops,, one expert has claimed.
Writing for the Dallas Morning News, Andrew Smith explains that he believes recent comments by the firm’s chief financial officer (CFO), Peter Oppenheimer, could indicate the firm is planning to cut the price of its computers.
Mr Smith points out that the CFO recently told investors the firm would introduce a product so competitive that it would drive Apple’s profit margin down by five percentage points.
According to Mr Smith, this indicates that a revamp of its laptop range is in the offing.
He said: "I’d guess Apple is planning to make some very aggressive upgrades to the laptops without raising, or perhaps even lowering, prices.
"My reason for making this guess is the sheer size of the margin decline that Oppenheimer predicted."
Recently, author Hunter Davies revealed to the Guardian how he had reluctantly embraced a MacBook but was now learning to love it.
